UK's largest residential property investor headlines NZ Property Conference

"As long as you do it right, there is not safer business than property investment,” said Kevin Green during his presentations at this weekend’s Annual Conference of the NZ Property Investors’ Federation (NZPIF). A self-made multi-millionaire and social entrepreneur, Kevin outlined how to lay the foundations for successful property and business strategies. He is the UK’s largest residential property landlord and a multi-business owner. He has been brought out to New Zealand by the Canterbury Property Investors’ Association, the host of this year’s conference.  Active Christchurch property investors were joined by property investors from all over New Zealand to learn more about the ingredients of Kevin’s success and how to transfer these into their own experience. 

Kevin shared his four Cs of success.  These are control (successful business people keep control of all aspects of their business, calculate (use IT systems to keep an eye on the numbers), connect (it is not what you know but who you know which is important) and complete (finish off your projects properly.)

Many of the Conference attendees were very experienced property investors but found Kevin refreshing and full of useful ideas.

“Although Kevin is coming from a different world, what he has to say is good and has some similarities to the situation here.  You do however have to learn from your own environment.” (Glenn Morris, Nelson).

“No matter how long an investor you’ve been, the Annual Conference is a great avenue for learning new things and networking,” said Nancy Caiger from Hamilton. “Kevin Green loves property and gold and has provided us with wonderful nuggets of information for our property investment journey.”

The Conference featured other speakers about the potential for investment in Christchurch and Canterbury and how to make the most of opportunities. In particular Antony Gough gave a passionate and enthusiastic presentation about the Christchurch rebuild in general and about his own development.

Norah Barlow, former CEO of Summerset Villages, had a slightly different property story to tell but it was equally enlightening. She also covered the impact of an ageing workforce on our workplaces, and talked about significant cultural and attitudinal differences between Boomers and older residents at Summerset’s villages. 

“You might think,” she said, “that the 50s are the new 30s but believe me that 80 is still 80.”

 Most attending the Conference were members of the 20 property investors associations affiliated to the NZPIF.   Comments from delegates included “Interesting and inspiring. Good to have Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment here to explain new things and to counter the complaints” and “I enjoy coming to conference because you can network and talk to like-minded people who embrace success.”
